Why should your website have an SSL Certificate

Ever go to a website, and receive a unfriendly notice? Something about “You have reached an insecure website” with the recommended action to go back.  Not only does the user not get to the website, if they do manage to find their way to your website, you could be leaving your customers vulnerable.

What is an SSL Certification?

There is a tiny bit of code that scrambles or secures the web traffic between the user and web server. Traffic on the internet wasn’t initially designed to be secure. Information can capture and seen in plain text. Filling out a form or making a purchase can be concerning. An attacker can sit on the wire and capture any and all information the user is doing on the website. 

How do I know if my site is secure?

Websites that start with “HTTPS” and have a locked pad lock are generally secure.
